SCIENCE HILL CEMETERY

By: Charles L. Seal

October 18, 2001

Science Hill Cemetery is located in the southeast corner of Rapides Parish. Take U.S. Hwy 165 South from Glenmora, Louisiana, turn left and cross the railroad on Turkey Creek Road. Go about 1 mile, turn right on Evangeline Road, go about 4 miles to D Babb Road and Colony Road crossing. Turn left on D. Babb Road, go about 1/2 mile and turn right on Science Hill Cemetery Road. Go approximately 2 Miles to the end of road and the cemetery is on the right at the end. The cemetery is enclosed with a hurricane fence, with double gates at the entrance. An American Flag is on the Right side of the gate in recognition of the many veterans buried within. Science Hill Cemetery was established in the late 1800’s where the settlers went to church and school, known as the Science Hill Schoolhouse and Church. A road from the Cypress Creek and Beaver Creek Community to Glenmora went in front of the schoolhouse. Most of the older graves were individuals who attended either church or school here, or were individuals from these communities. Stakes may be placed to reserve the plots for future family burials. Plot fee for burial in the cemetery is $50.00, which is used to help with the cost of maintenance. Persons, who have relatives buried here are asked to contribute whatever they can afford to help keep this site, as beautiful as in the past. Donations may be mailed to Ruby Lott, P. O. Box 222, Glenmora, LA 71433, or Ethel & Arlie Smith, 401 Neal Dr., Oakdale, LA 71463, or Dean Seaman, 2750 Cypress Creek Road, Oakdale, LA, 71463.
