He was a resident of Great Bend for 40 years coming from Lawrence, KS. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lawrence, KS and belonged to the KU Alumni Association, Barton County Bar Association, Kansas Bar Association, Kansas Trial  Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, International Printing Pressman and Assistants Union of North America and past president of Barton County Bar  Association. He was the former Special Administrative Law Judge, Division of Worker's Compensation and former Political Science Instructor for the University of Kansas. He served in the  Naval Reserve from 1951-1955. Preceded in death by sister, Millie Potter.

Duft, Duane E. 11-29-1937 10-1-2005 b. Great Bend ks Barton co, d. Ellinwood ks Barton co, S/O Elmer and Maurine Heizer Duft. He graduated from Great Bend High School. An Ellinwood resident since 1983, moving from Bushton, he was retired from the Ellinwood Branch of the Great Bend Co-op.He belonged to the National Rifle Association and the Cheyenne Bottoms Sportsmen's Club. He served in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne.

Engleman, O. Dale 8-14-1920 10-17-2005 b. & d. Great Bend KS Barton co, The only child of O.D. and Elsa Tucker Engleman. He married Jane Fisher on Nov. 21, 1944, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She survives. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1938. He spent his college freshman year at Georgia Military Academy, his sophomore year at Santa Monica Junior College and two years at U.C.L.A. He lived in Beverly Hills for six years, volunteering for the US Air Corps and became a certified safety engineer for Douglas Aircraft stationed at LAX. He returned to Great Bend in 1947 to farm and in 1949 was one of the founders of Security State Bank where he was Vice President for 28 years, retiring in 1985. For thirteen years, beginning in 1961, he was part owner and on the board of directors for the Timken State Bank, Timken. During those years, he served on the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce as President and board member, and as President and board member of Great Bend Industrial Development Corporation. He was one of the organizers of the Kansas Association of Bank Agricultural Representatives, was a board member and served as President and Building Chairman organizing the Kansas Bankers dormitory located in Rock Springs as a Kansas banker's gift for all Kansas 4-H members. He also served as a director for Sunflower Diversified Services securing their present building and location. During the consolidation of District 428 County Schools, he served two terms on the school board. He served as Building Chairman for the initial successful building, planning and execution of Camp Aldrich for the Girl Scouts of America. He served as a member of the Board of Directors, Great Bend Cemetery and Great Bend Noon Lions Club. He was the eldest great-grandchild of Henry and Wilhelmina von Schaeffer, from Germany and Holland, who helped lay out the City of Great Bend, built the first frame building and courthouse in the city, and gave the initial land for the present Great Bend Cemetery. Later, selling the balance of the present cemetery to the city from his 160-acre homestead farm, located from the present cemetery to 10th Street. He was the eldest grandchild of George Washington Tucker, a County Commissioner, who was involved in building the present courthouse. He was very proud of his history, heritage and pioneer background. He was preceded in death by: a son, Scott, in 1978.

Hachenberger, Betty Jean 4-26-1923  1-17-2006 b. Des Moines IA Polk co, d. Great Bend ks Barton co, D/O Lewis E. and Auria V. White Weigel. A resident of Great Bend since 1982, coming from Mobile, Ala. On Nov. 1, 1946, she married Robert L. Hachenberger in Hutchinson. He died May 12, 1998. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bobby Woodward and Ruth Heidebrecht.
Hertel, William 3-11-1920 7-11-2005 b. Munjor ks Ellis co, d. Great Bend ks Barton co, S/O Peter A. and Amelia Sander Hertel. A resident of Great Bend since 1941, formerly of Munjor, he worked for Parrish Motor Co. for 42 years, retiring as a manager.He belonged to the Catholic Community of Great Bend, St. Patrick, the American Legion and Sunflower Polka Club. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. On Aug. 18, 1941, he married Regina Sander at Walker. She died Aug. 22, 1990.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Hertel; and two grandchildren.
Hiss, John Robert 4-18-1924 8-4-2005 b. Great bend ks barton co, d. wichita, S/O Elward and Carrie Williams Hiss. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1941. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a dairyman, was employed with the Great Bend Co-Op in personal relations for 10 years and was former president on the board of directors. He belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend, serving as a trustee and an elder. He was an active member of Presbyterian Men's Club, Elks Club, Masonic Lodge, charter member of the Sons of American Legion Post No. 180 and past president and director of Board of Associated Milk Producers Inc. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Jane Hiss.

Jurgensen, Mary Ann 6-3-1915 7-13-2005 b. Timken ks Rush co, d. wichita, D/O Tom and Anna Kriklan Stejskal. A lifetime area resident, she was the owner and operator of Jurgensen Liquor, Albert. On Nov. 26, 1940, she married Leonard M. Jurgensen at Timken. He died April 23, 1981. She was preceded in death by two brothers Frank and Harry Stejskal.
Lawson, Jimmy E. 12-26-1929 10-2-2005 b. Seminole OK Seminole co, d. Great Bend KS  Barton co, S/O Roscoe and Faye Brown Lawson. He was a resident of Great Bend for 49 years, moving from Seminole, Okla., then was the district manager for Petrolite Corp., Tretolite Division, working there for 37 years. He belonged to First Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3111., American Legion Post No. 180, Elks Lodge No. 646 and the Community College Sports Hall of Fame.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Norma June Pair.
Myers, Margerie Louise 6-16-1941 8-23-2005 b. & d. Great Bend ks Barton co, D/O Henry C. and Florence E. Matson Moore. She was a lifetime resident of Great Bend. She belonged to River of Life Foursquare Church, Great Bend. She was an ordained minister and owned a flower and bridal shop in Woodward, Okla. In 1957, she married Marvin Pangburn. In 1963, she married Delbert Lloyd Sebring. In 1981, she married Don Myers. She was preceded in death by a brother, Everett Moore, and two sisters, Waunita Berry and Ruth Pohleman.

She belonged to the Catholic Community of Great Bend, St. Rose and St. Rose Altar Society.
On April 20, 1937, she married George B. Oberle in Ellinwood. He died Nov. 4, 1998. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert G. Oberle; and a sister, LaVerne Gardner.

Peterson, Roberta J. 5-9-1929 10-19-2005  b. OK, d. Great Bend ks Barton coBobbie born in Wild Horse, Okla., the daughter of Virgil F. and Nina Rhea Laughlin Wallis. A resident of Great Bend since 1956, moving from Odessa, Texas, she worked as a secretary for the detective division for Great Bend Police Department, Barton County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Barton County Attorney's Office. She belonged to First Church of God, where she was a pianist.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marvell Stevenson and Donna Allen.

Great Bend ks Barton co, S/O John L. and Glenna White Postlethwaite, Sr. A Great Bend resident for 70 years, moving from Osborne, he worked for Culligan Water Conditioning, the Great Bend Tribune and First National Bank. He belonged to First Church of God, Great Bend. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A Great Bend resident since 1946, moving from Wichita, he was the owner and operator of Pugh Electric Co., Great Bend. He belonged to First United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army Air Crop during World War II as a test pilot.  He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney L. Pugh; and a grandson. Burial will  be with military graveside rites.
