On July 18, 1954, he married Willa "Lois" Heskett in Meade. She died Oct. 3, 2005. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Scott; and a daughter, Jeannette Marie. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patsy Mae Gillen; four brothers, Lawrence, Norbert, Leander and Billy Gillen; and two sisters, Vi Ebert and Mary Ann Wimmer. |

He drove the activity bus for USD 480 from 1978 to 2004 and also was a route bus driver from 1980 to 1985 and in 2005. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion Wimmer Post 80 in Liberal. He was commander of the Liberal Disabled American Veterans and a former member of the Liberal Kiwanis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence, and a sister, Delila. |

Following his college graduation he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He then began his teaching and coaching career at Inman, Blue Rapids and Belle Plaine. In 1967 he decided to join his father-in-law in the funeral business in Meade. On April 1, 1978 Royce and his wife Banny took over full ownership and management of the Fidler Mortuary changing the name to Fidler-Orme Mortuary. On July 30, 2004, they retired and sold the business to their nephew. He belonged to the United Methodist Church, Webb Masonic Lodge, American Legion, all of Meade, The Shrine and Consistory Clubs of Wichita, Order of the Eastern Star of Liberal. He served two terms as mayor of Meade, was one of the Founders of the Little Dribblers Organization in Meade, coached numerous baseball teams, was a graduate of the second class at K.U. for EMT Instructor/Coordinators and taught many classes throughout Southwestern Kan., and managed the volunteer ambulance service for the county of Meade for many years. |

She later worked as a nurse's aide in the hospital. In 1960, she attended the Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in August 1963 with her nursing degree. She was the director of nursing for Spearville Hospital in 1975. In 1976, she became the director of nursing for the Lone Tree Lodge, retiring in 1994.She was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Meade, Kansas State Nursing Association and the American Nursing Association. On Sept. 26, 1970, she married Arthur Wiens in Meade. He died May 11, 1992. She is preceded in death by a brother, Levi T. Reimer; and a sister, Lena T. Reimer. |
