GreenMont Cemetery
1/2003-Greenmont was the cemetery for the town of Palmer Lake, in El Paso County. The location of the cemetery is SW1/4,NE ¼ of Sec. 34, township 10 south, Range 67. The land is now owned by the Douglas County Open Space. Harold and Essie Higginson bought the land for the cemetery in 1906. Because the Cemetery was so far from Palmer Lake most of the graves were moved to the Monument Cemetery in the early 1920’s. It appears to have about 8 unmarked sites, and one grave that is of Edward Kipps. His headstone says;

EDWARD THOMAS, BELOVED HUSBAND OF LOUISA KIPPS
B. SEPT. 7, 1861, TWENTY EIGHT YEARS
HE IS NOT DEAD BUT SLEEPING,
E. KIPPS
LONDON, ENGLAND

It is thought that he and his wife came from England and settled in this
area due to his problems with TB. When he died his wife returned to
England.

This is a very large stone, with a wrought iron fence around it. The rest of the stone are not marked with names.  Researched by Penney Burdick, transcribed by Jan Herman, ). For information contact Jan Herman e-mail cfherman@juno.com
